The Hawaiʻi Center for Advanced Transportation Technologies (HCATT, an HTDC program) won the Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT) Team of the Year award for outstanding work performance, creativity and innovation in achieving work efficiency, exemplary initiative and leadership, and for making a significant contribution toward the attainment of program objectives.
The HCATT team is passionate about their work and their goal to make hydrogen fuel an important part of the Hawaiʻi energy initiative. They spend countless hours of their own time working with students and educating them about hydrogen fuel and energy efficiency.
Project Manager Rachel James spearheaded several efforts, including a yearlong mentoring project with the Center for Tomorrow’s Leaders, where four Hawaiʻi public school students participated in a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle conversion and produced a presentation to educate the community about hydrogen fuel cell technologies.
In late February HCATT participated in Eat The Street, providing educational opportunities for participants to learn about hydrogen while also providing the lighting for the event using hydrogen fuel power. The entire team goes above and beyond to educate local students about renewable energy, using fun activities and projects to illuminate a very complicated subject.
